We understand you may have a few things you would like to know about choosing your wedding dress, so we have put together some answers to questions we are often asked to help you on your way. If you find you still have other questions to ask Lola Bridal, please contact us and we will help you out.
Ideally you should look at ordering your dress a minimum of nine months before your wedding, but we do understand this isn’t always possible. If you have decided to marry in a shorter space of time, let us know and we may be able to help with a ‘rush’ order or a sample dress from the shop.
Ordering nine months in advance may seem a long time, but your dress will need to be made, delivered and then you will need time for fittings. We allow one and a half hours for a first appointment as there are so many beautiful dresses to choose from we don’t want to rush you. Saturdays are the most popular so please book well in advance. We do offer out of hours appointments so please call us for availability.
Please inform us if you have any friends getting married, so we check our sales list and see if we have sold a dress to her. If you don’t let us know we maybe in a position of selling you the same dress and we want to avoid that happening. We can’t be held responsible if you do not let us know.
What happens during my appointment and do I really need one?
We advise booking an appointment as there are so many gorgeous dresses you may like to try and brides that book have the exclusive use of our large downstairs area. Here you can try the dresses of your choice in a relaxing, comfortable yet fun environment, without any distractions from people choosing their shoes or accessories upstairs.
During your time with us you will receive personal attention, have your own dressing room and those that accompany you can sit comfortably, waiting for the moment we open the curtain and you reveal your wonderful dress!
What should I wear when I come to Lola Bridal?
We have no dress code at Lola and want you to feel at ease, so you are encouraged to wear something you feel comfortable in. We do suggest you wear (or bring with you) a strapless bra and some shoes with heels.
We would appreciate if you only wear a little make-up, but no perfume or spray tan please as it could spoil the dress. It also helps you to see the colour of the dress against your natural skin tone.
Can I take photographs?
Unfortunately not until the dress has been purchased and then you are welcome to take as many as you like. We have to respect the work of our designers and ensure copies are not made.
How many people should I bring with me?
We recommend you have no more than two or three people with you as too many opinions may confuse you. Quite often it becomes emotional as well! Your dress should be what you feel comfortable wearing and your choice for your day. Lola Brial will provide your guests with refreshments while you are trying on your dresses and then you can all indulge in a little ‘fizz’ when you have made your final choice.
Even though Lola Bridal love children, we would recommend leaving any of your little ones at home. We understand the attention they need and feel it will be more relaxing for you and your guests if there are no distractions. Remember this time is all yours and it’s all about you! If you really have no alternative (which we also understand) can we recommend one of your guests is responsible for them so you can enjoy your time at Lola’s.
What happens with payment and when my dress comes in?
We take a payment of 50% when you order your dress and you pay the remaining 50% within 14 days of your dress being delivered. Please note that the deposit is non-refundable. We accept cash, debit and credit card payments. There is a 2.5% charge for credit cards.
You will take the dress away with you after you have tried it on and store it until it is time for your alterations. Lola Bridal cannot store dresses, due to space restrictions. We recommend you update your insurance if necessary.
Your dress must be paid for in full before alterations can be started. The price for alterations is paid directly to the seamstress.
How many fittings and alterations will I need?
Some brides are lucky enough to find their perfect dress is an exact fit. When your dress is delivered you will come in, try it on and pay your final balance (required within 14 days). We will talk to you about how to arrange your alterations with the seamstress. If you then find you need more alterations nearer your big day (often brides to be do lose weight) you can arrange this directly with her.
We recommend you bring the underwear you will wear on the day and the shoes if you have them with you for the fitting with the seamstress to ensure the dress fits properly.
Can I just come to Lola Bridal and look for shoes and accessories or buy them online?
You are more than welcome to come to the shop and look through our shoes and accessories. It is best if you let us know when you are coming in, so we can be sure we have staff available to help you.
If you’d like to buy shoes and accessories without coming into the boutique, you can call us with your choice and we will take payment plus postage over the phone and send them out to you.
